SOVEMA was established in 1945 and has been running Brossette Establishments in Sub-Saharan Africa until 1987, thus allowing its staff to beneficiate and draw an unequalled experience from their activities in the area.



SOVEMA has chosen to produce and supply India Mark II and III pumps fabricated following strictly Indian Standards IS 9301. These pumps are the perfect answer to the needs of developing areas due to their simplicity, their easy maintenance and adequacy with the social values of those poor areas. Around 5000 "India Sovema" and "India Mali"‚ are presently in function in Africa. The main quality of Sovema’s pumps is their property of being self-priming thus preserving water’s quality.

POMPES SOVEMA MARK II, MARK III ET INDIA MALI

Over 5000 of these pumps are presently in function in Africa.

• Priming : India pumps are self-priming at all depths. They do not require the introduction of any kind of liquid, different from the one of the bore in order to put it in operation.

• Surface waters : The conception of the foot of the pump allows to crest the piping of the bore so as to avoid surface waters from infiltrating into the well.

• Maintenance: All installation or disassembly of the pump are carried out within the area of the platform which, if properly cleaned in advance, will avoid pollution of the bore through riser pipe.

SOVEMA pumps are fabricated following IS 9301standards using A36 hot galvanized steel.
It is the most world widespread type (over 2.5 millions specimen).

Several models are available : Standard Sovema Pump Mark II and Mark III, Pump for deep depth Mark II with counterweight on the pump lever. There are two different ways to ensure the platform binding : either with a tripod foot casted in the platform or a square flange (see photo) fastening by means of 4 J bolts M14 standards CIEH 195x280.

COMMON MAIN FEATURES OF SOVEMA PUMPS

Main Characteristics :

The conception of the beak adapt to all kind of water recipients. The nitrile rubber pump bucket has a long-life span, even in the case of aggressive water. Village hand pumps with a great reliability.

The lever of the pump is specially built so as to enable children to use the pump safely and easily. Easy installation and cheap maintenance to be carried out in the village without any specific training. The borehole is suitably covered in order to avoid all type of water pollution. Our pumps can also be used on open wells.

They can be wind-borne or connected to an electric generator. Head pump (the part over the ground) is made of hot galvanized steel and can be assembled in several different ways. 12 mm stainless steel rod, 3 meter length with hexagonal coupler.

Our pumps are produced following IS 9301 standards.


SOVEMA MARK II DEEP DEPTH HAND PUMPS

The lever is equipped with a counterweight that will reduce the effort while pumping. Cylinder is assembled with 3 pump buckets so as to raise the water from as far as 90 meters depth.
This pump can be assembled with several types of cylinder : 100% stainless steel, cast iron/bronze casting, India Mali (stainless steel)...

SOVEMA MARK III (VLOM)

Cylinder which upper part can be directly fixed on the DN 65 mm. riser pipe. The piston and the base valve can be removed and then placed back without having to dismantle the set made up of the riser pipe and cylinder.

Reinforced tank modified in order to sustain a 65 mm riser pipe (electrolytic protection possible).
The pump functions until 45 meters depth.

Production process and materials used for the fabrication contribute to the reliability of our riser pipes and avoid repeated interventions. The lightness of the pump riser components which are max. 3 meters long and the readiness of manual installation and disassembly make maintenance operations easier.

OUTFITTER

Special boxes containing necessary tools and equipment for installation and maintenance of Sovema pumps are provided. They are intended for the use of the installers and repairers in the village.




TRAINING
Our engineers have at heart villagers’ interests and are conscious of the necessity to train locally the installers and the repairers. On-site assembly and retraining courses are regularly made.

Local agents We are represented locally through structures or companies installing and marketing hand pumps in all Sub-Saharan states of Africa and in Madagascar.
